The State Bank of Pakistan issued commemorative new Edhi coin worth Rs. 50. The Chairman of Edhi Foundation Abdul Sattar Edhi, the late philanthropist made up the largest ambulance network in the world and now the Edhi coins will be issued through the exchange counters of all the field offices of SBP Banking Services.
Keeping in mind the honorable services of Edhi Sahb, the government had decided to issue the new Edhi coin in a cabinet meeting held on July 2016. The coin features the face of Abdul Sattar Edhi on the backside and the front face will depict the star and crescent just like the normal Pakistani coins.
This commemorative coin is presented to Faisal Edhi in order to pay tribute to late Edhi. Pakistan had only issued five commemorative coins for the famous personalities. Including Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and now Abdul Sattar Edhi.
Speaking at the event, Faisal Edhi, the son of Abdul Sattar Edhi shared his views. He said,
“ I intend to continue the mission of Edhi sahib, and I believe that it should be carried on until the end of times. Everyone should help take this mission forward, and partake in all services for the humanity. ”
