DIED ON : Morning of 21st Ramadhan 40th Hijrah

DEATH PLACE : Masjid-e-Kufa

HOLY SHRINE : Najaf-e-Ashraf (IRAQ)

Cause of Shahadat:
Murdered by an assassin who mortally wounded him with a poisoned sword in the Mosque at Kufa during morning prayers on the 19th of Ramadan.

About Zulfiqar:
Hazrat Ali (A.S) was prominent at the Battle of Uhud, as well as many other battles where he wielded a bifurcated sword known as “Zulfiqar”, given to him by the Prophet (saw). Muslim historians reported that Hazrat Ali (A.S), alone, destroyed all the standard bearers. He also had the special role of protecting the Prophet (saw) when most of the Muslims’ army escaped at the battles of Uhud and it was said of him: “La fata illa Ali, La saifa illa Zulfiqar” (There is no brave man except Ali and there is no sword which renders service except Zulfiqar).” For his bravery and strength, he was known as “Asadullah” – the Lion of Allah.
