crazy but not stupid

One truck driver was doing his usual load delivery at a mental hospital, by parking his vehicle beside an open drain.
He discovered a flat tyre when he was about to return from the mental hospital. He jacked up the truck and removed the flat tyre to fix the spare tyre.
When he was about to fix the spare tyre, he accidentally dropped all the 4 bolts in the open drain.
As he cannot fish the bolts in the open drain, he started to panic as to what should be done?
Just then, one patient happened to walk past him and asked the driver as to why he was looking troubled.
The driver thought to himself, since there is nothing much he can do or this mental joker can. Just to keep the bugging away, the truck driver informed the whole episode to the mental patient and gave a helpless look.
The patient just laughed at the truck driver and said you just cannot even fix such a simple problem? No wonder you are destined to remain a truck driver for life
the truck driver was astonished to hear such a compliment from a mental guy.
Here is what you can do said the mental guy
take one bolt from each of the remaining 3 tyres/wheels and fix it on to this tyre . Then drive down to the nearest workshop and replace the missing ones. Is’nt it simple my friend !!!!
The truck driver was so impressed with this quick fix answer and asked the patient.how come you are so smart and intelligent and you are here at the mental hospital?
The patient replied…hello friend! I stay here because i am crazy but not stupid
No wonder, there are some people, who behave like the Truck Driver, thinking that others are just stupid. So, guys, though you all are learned and wise, but, just watch out, there could be some CRAZY guys in our professional / personal lives, who could give us lot of quick fixes and brush our wisdom.
The moral of the story is – just do not conclude that you know everything and do not judge people by mere looks/attire stature or academic background

Flavors of Success By Mullah Nasruddin

Mullah Nasruddin and Flavors of Success

Mullah Nasruddin is a satirical Sufi figure whose name is used in numerous stories to add a touch of wit and humor. His funny anecdotes make people burst into fits of laughter.

Different people, same goals – Success,Happiness. What is a measure of success? Money, power, fame, or a happy family, everlasting smile and contentment?

Preferences may vary but what remains common and finds room in everybody’s heart is the desire to be successful in life. Again, the definition of success may vary but what doesn’t is the fact that every person on this planet wants to be happy. So if we all want to be happy and successful, why not work on both together?

Earning more money when we are young is like tasting one flavor of success. Now let us taste a few other flavors too – a smile that does not fade, the joy in spreading happiness, enjoyment in every little thing along the way to achieving our goal, and contentment in what we have. Meditation helps us relish all these different flavors. Let’s see how.

#1 Smile that comes free of cost !

Mullah and his wife (smiling from head to toe) walk out of the jewelry store after purchasing a diamond necklace. On his way, Mullah sees a poor man offering a rose to his wife.

Mullah to his wife: “Look at him, what a successful man he is! I wish I could have his luck !”
Wife: Huh?
Mullah: Just see, his wife’s smile is much cheaper !!

Mullah’s wife angrily throws the necklace on the road and walks away.

Make your smile cheaper and anger expensive. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says, “The first sign of success is an unshakeable smile”. Money could buy all the riches in the world, while a smile comes literally free of cost. And yet, we use it so sparingly.

Meditate and see yourself smiling more and more. Regular practice helps release the negative emotions we carry within us –anger, frustration, stress, and it also gives us the ability to smile through all odds in life which is a sure sign of success.

#2 Joy in sharing a bite from your plate

Mullah wins 4-1 in a football match with his six-year-old son while his neighbor watches on.

Neighbor to Mullah’s son: So your father won again!
Son: Actually, I just wanted dad to be happy.

Winning and losing are a part of life’s game. What is important is how happy we are and how much happiness we spread to others. That is also a sign of true success. Try this for yourself! How does it feel to share a bite from your plate with a poor kid on the street? Or donate an amount from your salary to charity?

This feeling of service, of compassion for the needy and of being useful to someone comes easy when we meditate. Meditation fills us with such joy, contentment and gratitude from within that we feel like a king and are ready to share what we have.

#3 Victories that are all along the way

Mullah and his friend decide to race a mountain peak. They meet an old friend at a tea shop who challenges them for a tea-drinking competition. Mullah stops over but his friend carries on. Mullah tries to catch up when he again stops to play football with some kids, scores his goals, and once more to haggle with a flower-seller for fresh roses at a lesser price. He reaches just in time for the sunset to find his friend already there.

Friend (with a beaming smile): So Mullah, I won! I reached first!
Mullah: So what? I won thrice in the same time!

Happiness is not just in achieving some goal but also in every step that leads to it. When we enjoy every moment of life’s journey to our heart’s content, that is the sign of true success. Instead of thinking, “If I buy a big house or get a good job, only then I will be successful”, shift your thought process to “I am happy and successful now in whatever I do or have”.

You can bring about this shift in you with daily meditation. You start enjoying every moment of life to the fullest.

#4 Feeling of deep gratitude

Mullah finds a hidden treasure in his backyard. It was one of the 15 pots of gold that the late king had hidden.

Neighbour: You are the richest and the most successful man in our village! Why do you still look so sullen?
Mullah: What will happen if someone else finds the other 14?

This is the way our mind works. It can hardly stay contented with what is achieved. It craves for more and more. One desire fulfilled and the next is ready in queue. Have you noticed that this chain of countless desires is what makes us restless and anxious?

Relax !! Keep your mind happy by meditating everyday. Meditation can help you achieve such deep contentment from within that you start feeling grateful for what you have in life and desires get fulfilled even before they arise!

No, Give The Water To Someone Else

sufisimAllah brought you here and put you among those that he loves as a great favor. In return, everything that you do is a zakat. The zakat of Sufism is being good and helping people and not getting angry. The human body is not compatible with anger and anger does not help the human body at all. Compassion, love and mercy are compatible with the human body and your system. If you get angry, you may get heart trouble, heart attacks, tension, and other diseases. This is a scientific fact that is one demonstration of this truth. If Allah wanted us to be angry and uncompassionate people, would He have made anger so detrimental to our bodies?

Let’s say that there is this person who is working on a farm harvesting grapes. Somebody comes along and says to him, “Your house is burning.” And so he gets on his horse and rushes towards his house. On his way he passes by a fountain. Sitting beside the fountain is a drunken man, begging for some water. The man on the horse says, “If you can, just reach next to you. The water is there, right where you are sitting.” But the drunken man in his ignorance says, “Hey man, where are you going, aren’t you going to give me some water? I am so thirsty.” What would a Sufi do in this situation?
Al-Hasib – The One Who Keeps Accounts and Measures of All Things

The answer is that you would get off your horse and give this man some water. If you can do this without resentment, then you can be a Sufi. If you can put aside your personal problems, ignore the fact that your own house is burning, and help someone who is so ignorant that they have made themselves drunk and cannot see that the water they need is right in front of them, then you are a Sufi.

In every situation, ask yourself, “What is a better action?” You are sick and you have all this work to do. Your son or daughter says, “Can you help we with my math?” Then what do you do? Can you be nice to them or talk to them without yelling at them? “Yes honey, what can I do for you?” Or do you tell them, “Look, don’t you see that I am suffering here?” Can you be kind when people have been unkind to you? When you are sick yourself and need help, can you help others?

the-sufi-way

There are so many stories that illustrate this point. One time there is a war and the women are carrying water to the wounded. As one of the women is about to give water to a soldier, he says, “No, give the water to my brother over there. He is more wounded than I am.” And the other soldier sends the water back to him, but by the time the woman returns to the first man, he is already dead. What is more important? Life and death matter, but can you say, “No, give the water to someone else,” even when you are dying ??

This is Islam… This is been Muslim !!

The Power of Prayers : Sufi Comics

the-power-of-prayers-sufi comics

I heard this story the first time in one of the lectures by Br Khalil Jaffer in the series The Art of Yearning for God. I also read it in a book of Sufi stories.

One of the lessons to learn in this story is that we if recite the Names of God, it should be done with our hearts so that it takes effect. There is little benefit if we just recite it with our tongues while our heart is somewhere else.

GoodNight by Flower

I read that some place…
And felt is worth to be share….
so do read it….

goOdnight flower

Good night, the words I dread more than goodbye. I do not want to sleep. For me, it’s a waste of time, an excuse for slight moment of freedom from a caged life. Though tonight I wanted to sleep, it finally gave up from visiting my subconscious. So I lay in bed thinking of a story about a precious flower I once saw.
The flower has delicate petals but bloomed in a very fastidious environment. The gardener makes sure that his precious flower only gets the best fertilizer available and the soil is at its finest condition. Only a few chosen flowers can come near her, only the ones exquisite enough for the gardener. The flower felt locked and enraged but showed grace as a favor for the gardener who nurtured her. The flower wanted to test new soil. She wanted to grow with the rest of the normal flowers. She felt left out, confused and uncomfortable.
The flower is vulnerable. Her stalk is weak. Her petals are so soft. She might not survive the life in a commoner’s park but she wanted to try. She wanted to feel the pain of having a petal plucked knowing that the farmer would not be there to mend her. She longed for the uncalculated sunlight knowing that it might be too much for her to bear. She struggled to show the normal flowers that she is not different knowing that they will always look at her like a fragile flower living behind a grand gardener.
Whenever I look at that flower, I want to touch her and tell her that life is beautiful. I want to convince her that she is the gardener’s only constant treasure. I want to tell her that she is not weak, she is strong to take risks and stand up for what she really wants. I want to make her believe that good flowers would not judge her from where she was planted but upon where her scent reaches.
The flower says good night.
